A look at what’s been going on at Church on the Street as we start the New Year:
A New Space for Worship
Through grants and generous donations paying for us to have a lift installed, we have been been able to start using the upstairs space of our church in Burnley for worship. Here you can see Bishop Mick and our amazing musicians taking full advantage of the much improved acoustics.
This dedicated worship space is now used for services throughout the week:
Sundays, from 11.00am
Worship Service, Sunday School and Prayer Group
Tuesdays, 3.30pm – 4.30pm
Service of Quiet Contemplation, with Communion
Fridays, 7.30pm – 9.00pm
Faith and Healing for All, and Testimony (see below)
At Bethesda Church, Bethesda St, Burnley BB11 1PR (behind M&S).
A New Intake of The Exodus Project
On 24 February, a new intake of students will begin The Exodus Project, the ground-breaking programme based on 12 biblical foundations for recovery, created by Bishop Mick and Pastor Emma of Church on the Street.
The Exodus Project has a proven track record of bringing life changing transformation to people who have failed repeatedly to escape from past trauma, addiction and destructive patterns of behaviour.
Graduates from previous intakes of The Exodus Project will be helping to facilitate the programme in 2025 as they continue in their personal development and growth with the church.
Applications are still open for The Exodus Project starting in February, if interested please send an enquiry ASAP:
Teaching the Gospel of Mark
The Bible College is excited to announce a new course: “The Gospel of Mark: Jesus in Action,” starting on 10 February and running for 18 weeks. We will be looking in detail at the Gospel that most of all talks about what Jesus did, which was one of the first accounts of his life to be written down.

Our Research Raises Awareness of Child Poverty Increase
Research produced by Church on the Street is being used by news media in Scotland to raise awareness of alarming increases in child poverty:
“In Glasgow Central, absolute child poverty has skyrocketed 54.05% between 2014/15 and 2022/23.”

Bishop Mick was also interviewed on BBC Radio Scotland, where he was able to promote better understanding and awareness of how child poverty is effecting communities across the UK.
Our report: “REVEALED: The UK areas where absolute child poverty has increased the most” used official figures from the UK Parliament to discover which UK constituencies had the biggest increase in absolute child poverty.
Testifying to the Power of Jesus
Starting on 31 January, the last Friday of each month of our regular “Faith and Healing for All” service, will be a testimony night. We hear so many stories from people in an around our church of transformation through faith, that we wanted to provide a space for these stories to be shared.
We look forward to building up our community in Christ through bearing witness to the limitless power of God’s love.

Life Saving Training Put Into Action
Staff and volunteers at Church on the Street are trained to administer the drug Naloxone, which can reverse the effects of an opioid overdose.
Recently one of our staff members was driving home when they came across an unresponsive person lying at the side of the road, attended by two other people. An ambulance had already been called, but the person’s breathing was becoming shallower.
Identifying the likely cause as a drug overdose, our staff member quickly administered a shot of Naloxone that they kept in their glovebox. The person thankfully became conscious again within minutes.
The likelihood is that this person would have died by the side of the road before an ambulance arrived had it not been for the action taken. Our staff member later said:
“A five minute training session and a small box in my car has saved someone, any of us can do that!”
Dear Heavenly Father,
In this ever changing world, we stand on the rock of your never changing word to guide us in thought an action.
Forgive us when we become distracted by busy lives, and fail to take the time we should to know you more.
We thank you for your son Jesus, finding us when we were lost, and showing us the path to true freedom and away from sin.
Help us testify to the power or your love, in words and in service to others.
In the name of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ,
Amen.
Thank you for your support.
