A catch-up of what’s been going on at Church on the Street this summer…
Standing in Unity Against Division
Following a week of rioting and unrest in the UK, community and church leaders from Burnley came together to deliver a message of unity:
“We are proud to live in a diverse borough, where communities work together, to support each other. We do not welcome hatred or violence of any kind. We stand together in unity.”
Drop-in Service Wins NHS Star Award
We were delighted to be named as winners of an NHS Star Award by East Lancashire Health Trust. The award, for Engagement and Partnership, was in recognition of our work with the local NHS trust providing an accessible drop-in Wound Care and Foot Clinic at our church in Burnley.
We look forward to continuing our work with them in the future, to stand in the gaps and serve God wherever people need us.
Pastor Joanne Steps Up in Barnoldswick
Last month we paid tribute to Gill Savage, who was standing down from her role managing the two charity shops she founded for Church on the Street in Barnoldswick. Those reins have now been handed over to Pastor Joanne, who will manage the two shops in addition to our Community Cafe in the town.
We believe that serving the community in this way is a powerful testimony to the love of God and the compassion of Jesus Christ. We ask for God’s blessing on Joanne and her team of hard working volunteers, as they continue to deliver the message of the Gospel, in both word and deed.
Report Looks at Risk of Homelessness in UK
A new report produced by Church on the Street has revealed the top 50 UK areas with the highest risk of homelessness. Pastor Mick Fleming said:
“The levels of homelessness and severe poverty we have seen in the UK over the past few years, is the worst it has ever been. People are truly reaching a new level of destitution, and it must be one of the first priorities of our new government to restore dignity and alleviate suffering for these most vulnerable members of society.”

Exodus Project Graduate to lead Recovery Group
In 2023 Chris Brooks graduated from our groundbreaking recovery programme from addiction and trauma, The Exodus Project. He is now stepping into a new role leading and developing The Genesis Group. The Genesis Group supports people who are in an active addiction, or in the early stages of recovery.
Chris’s experience coming from a prison therapeutic community has equipped him with essential tools for personal growth, accountability, and a deep understanding of group dynamics. Completing The Exodus Project has honed further skills in leadership, self-discipline, and resilience through his Faith.
We believe this blend of personal growth and structured learning has prepared Chris to lead The Genesis Group with compassion, insight, and the ability to create a supportive environment where participants can thrive on their own journeys to recovery and reintegration.

Dear Heavenly Father, Let your light shine upon us, into our world, into our lives, and into our hearts. Remind us not to be lead into sin, seeking to impose our own ideas of fairness and justice upon the world, but instead to surrender to your will in all matters, and in all situations, and to be the bringers of your light and your love to all people.
In times of trouble, your son Jesus walks with us, he knows our fears and concerns, and he draws us close to him, so that he may lead us to a kingdom of everlasting peace. We thank you Father for your grace, love and forgiveness, that we did not earn, but received as a gift in the sacrifice of your son, our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ,
Amen.
Thank you for your support.
